Smith said now he’s turning to management with the complex for resources.

KATU News reached out to the number listed online, and the manager said he has nothing to say at this time.

“They haven’t contacted us at all. Like me, myself, my rent is paid up until January. They haven’t contacted me to offer me another unit somewhere else, assistance in staying in a motel or anything,” Smith said.

Others said they’re staying at motels, taking it day by day. Hot Sale Jordans,Dewayne Perry said he was just lucky to get out alive.

Perry said while trying to sleep just down the street from the Northeast Portland apartment complex on the night of July 4th, the sound of fireworks frayed his nerves.

“Just constantly reminding you what you just went through. You know, I heard all that the night before and it just had me jittery that something else was going to take place or happen,” he said.

Portland Fire said the building was not equipped with sprinklers, and code enforcement is based on existing codes at the time of construction.

If there are no significant changes or damage to that building,Jordan Release News , then they are not required to retrofit and add sprinklers.

“A lot of people do ask questions about why we can’t just make a building, an owner, do this. But can you imagine? I mean, there’s a lot of buildings in the city of Portland, similar to those older apartments, that were just built in an earlier time,” senior fire inspector Paul Jennings said.

Jennings said apartment buildings going up in Portland today are required to have a sprinkler system, including an attached alarm to reach dispatch in the event of an emergency.
