Allbirds Just Released Its Lightest Running Shoe Ever

Since launching in 2014, Allbirds has built a cult-like following of athleisure devotees for its minimalist trainers that really can be worn anywhere and everywhere. Count Men’s Health editors among the converted, who have praised its do-it-all Dashers and cozy-but-not-sloppy workout clothes.

The secret to Allbirds’ success is focusing on sustainable products that look great and leave a relatively small carbon footprint. For example, when it launched its Tree Dasher 2.0 earlier this year, it was one of the lightest performance sneakers on the market. Now, Allbirds its outdoing itself again with the drop of its Tree Flyer. Weighing in at a feathery 9.49 ounces, it’s the brand’s lightest running shoe ever.

While die-hard marathoners would be better off opting for more performance-based sneakers, our fitness editors say the new Tree Flyer, which is purpose-built for longer jaunts than its marquee Dasher, is perfectly fine for casual runs.

The Flyer has plenty of note-worthy features, including a new SwiftFoam™ midsole and a comfortable ZQ merino wool heel lining to provide a cushy base for your feet while keeping sweat at bay. In other words, these shoes are great for guys who are putting in a few miles a week to train for their first 5k.

And, just like the rest of Allbirds’ offerings, the Tree Flyer has serious eco-friendly credentials. Among them: its upper was assembled with eucalyptus fibers, its shoelaces sourced from recycled plastic bottles, and its grippy outsole is made with FSC-certified natural rubber.

While the Tree Flyers outsole might be more pronounced than the Dasher, the silhouette still speaks to the same versatility in how well they will look with all types of casual wear.

Right now you can get the new Tree Flyers in three limited edition colors—Buoyant Yellow, Buoyant Orange, Lux Beige—as well as two classic colors of Natural Black and Blizzard.

And for those curious about the price point, $160 will get you a pair of of these ultra-light bad boys, which is a deal considering how much new technology is packed into the sneaker.

Not bad Allbirds. Not bad at all.
