I Found the Ultimate Comfy Heels for Weddings, and They’re a Compliment Magnet

When I found out my best friend from high school got engaged in January, I was hysterically happy and screamed my congratulations to her on the phone. I was even more ecstatic when she asked me to be a bridesmaid—until it dawned on me that I would have to wear heels for a whole day.

Of course I would do anything to be by my best friend’s side, but having flat feet, ankle pain, and a herniated disk in my lower back that results in debilitating pain if I have to walk around all day in unsupportive shoes had me worried about how my body would handle running around all day in sky-high heels doing all the tasks that being a bridesmaid would entail. So I knew I had to find the most utterly comfortable heels for the occasion; stylishness would have to take a back seat.

Thankfully, finding the best things to buy is my job. I scoured retailers and brands that I had long heard great things about as a lifestyle writer, and used my Amazon Prime’s Try Before You Buy option to order dozens of options. Nothing was quite right until I finally tried Margaux’s City Sandals in the Rose Nappa colorway. The brand sent over a pair for me to test out, and I knew instantly that they would be the ones; they’re the ultimate combination of style and comfort.

What shocked me first was how soft and supportive the footbed of the heels were. Compared to a pair of heels by Naturalizer that I had originally settled on, Margaux’s City Sandals were more stable for my overpronated arches and ankles to walk in. I was surprised that the Margaux heels outperformed the Naturalizer pair since the latter had built-in arch support, but the former’s toe box was even more flexible for my wide feet and bunions.

On the day of the wedding last week, I tried putting off wearing the heels for as long as possible, but I counted that by the end of the night I had worn them (and danced in them) for 12 hours without ever wanting to take them off. I didn’t even have time to break them in—something that I worried would bring ruin upon my feet—but the shoes instantly molded to my feet and offered plenty of support. I had brought a pair of white sneakers that I figured I’d need to switch into after the ceremony, and it wasn’t until I got back to my hotel room after midnight that I realized I never even thought about swapping my shoes out the whole day.

Even better, the shoes looked fantastic with my coral bridesmaid dress, and I got endless compliments from my fellow bridesmaids and other wedding guests on my shoes. The low block heels gave me just the right amount of boost so I wouldn’t be stepping on my long dress as I dashed around the venue, and the study ankle clasp kept the shoes from falling off my feet. Although I went with the shorter heel, people who can handle (or prefer) more height can purchase the 3.5-inch Uptown Sandal instead.

To cut to the chase, these Margaux City Sandals are just about perfection. I doubt I’ll ever be a person who has more pairs of heels than sneakers (at this point, it’s a ratio of two to 15), but I can’t think of another pair of heels I’d grab first if I ever needed to slip on something a little more formal.

Shop the Margaux shoes below in multiple colors, including an Ivory Satin color with a crystal buckle that’s part of the brand’s bridal collection—perfect for walking down the aisle and dancing the night away.
