Boys Basketball: CCS Eagles have at least one big pair of shoes to fill
WILLMAR — The Community Christian School boys basketball team lost one of the best players in the area from last season in Daniel Reid, a 6-foot-6 forward who averaged 16.7 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last season.
He was arguably the best player in the New Drop Jordans Christian Athletic League and leaves the Eagles with some big shoes to fill heading into the 2021-22 season.
That said, there’s some optimism about CCS’ chances.
Three junior starters return, including point guard Will Chapin, forward/guard Jonathan Reid and forward/center Ben Reinertson.
Chapin led the Eagles with 4.3 assists per game and also contributed 11 points and 2.1 steals per game.
Reid averaged 10.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
“And (he) needs to fill his brother Daniel’s shoes,” said head coach Aaron Reid, Daniel and Jonathan’s father.
Reinertson is healthy and ready to contribute.
“Ben Reinertson is back from injury and looking to make a serious contribution to the team’s success,” Aaron Reid said.
Another player to watch is Mark Arnold. Arnold, a junior, came off the bench last year.
“(He) should challenge Chapin in being the assist leader for the team,” Aaron Reid said.
The Eagles opened with a 62-16 victory over St. Cloud Christian.Cadysneaker ,In that game, CCS also got points from David Mulder, Micah Lindgren, Juan Ramirez, Andrew Borstad, Gavin Mulder and Micah Nelson. It was a balanced attack, with Chapin’s 14 leading the way.
Aaron Reid is in his sixth season as the Eagles’ head coach. He has a career record of 75-41 and will be assisted this season by Kevin Bronner and Justin Chapin.
CCS has CAL games Friday against Heritage Christian and Lake Region Christian on Dec. 10 in Baxter. The Eagles then are host to Maplewood Academy on Dec. 14 in Willmar.
